About Us

The Georgia Bigfoot Society is an organization of close knit members who are dedicated to a quest for knowledge about and understanding of the Sasquatch, an indigenous race of beings who are now known to be of human descent. We are firm in our belief that the best way of gaining an understanding of these beings is by respectful interaction with them in their natural environment. Consequently, we are adamantly opposed to the killing or capturing of these beings. Whatsmore, we are united in our efforts to affect universal recognition of the Sasquatch as a people, and to accord to them the same human rights that are due to such beings. fbs forex review

Petition to Recognize the Human Rights of the Sasquatch People

In a recent news release concerning her 5-year study on the DNA of the Sasquatch, Dr. Melba S. Ketchum called for government at all levels to recognize the human and Constitutional rights of these newly discovered indigenous people.

Now a petition has been created to gather support for that historic effort. You can be a part of that effort by clicking on the link above and taking the time to read and sign the petition.

K. Steven Monk ~ Director, Georgia Bigfoot Society, says: “For the longest time I have suspected that there was more to the Sasquatch than just a physical existence, that there was a spiritual and mental side to them that we were not yet aware of. Through Kathleen’s interspecies communication abilities, I was able to connect with them in a way that I never dreamed possible. It taught me a great deal about their true nature, which is actually more spiritual than physical. But more importantly, Kathleen’s session taught me how I am actually connected with the Sasquatch people. And that was the most valuable lesson of all. I would highly recommend Kathleen’s services to anyone who seeks communication with these amazing beings, and who desires to learn of the important message that they have for us hairless humans.”

Elusive Creatures in a Vanishing World:
How Can We Save the Sasquatch?

By K. Steven Monk

Every day now, the world of the Sasquatch keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Over thousands of years, through the process of natural selection, the creatures that we call Bigfoot/Sasquatch have evolved into beings that are amazingly adept at avoiding human contact. Why they have chosen to do this is something known only to them. Perhaps it is because that their history of living on the same continent with us has shown them that we are an aggressive and destructive animal that, for the purposes of their survival, would best be avoided. Looking back at how we have made war on each other and not only killed each other but other animals as well, I can hardly disagree with their choice.

When one looks at the elusive nature of the Sasquatch, it would seem that the development of such uncanny powers of stealth have served them well. Even though they have lived right amongst us for all of our recorded time on this continent, we have yet to obtain even a single thread of evidence that would positively confirm their existence. Even people that have seen these creatures have reported that they seem to have the mysterious ability to virtually disappear from sight. With this amazing ability to avoid their most dangerous enemy it would seem that their survival is assured.

But there is one thing that history has shown us that no animal in the wild can survive -- loss of habitat.

Simply put, habitat is a space which a given specie finds suitable for the purposes of finding food and in which it can carry on the process of reproducing its own kind. For the Sasquatch this means large tracts of undeveloped wilderness. We have only to look around us to see the fact that this kind of living space is rapidly disappearing from the face of the North American continent. Unless this encroachment by man can be stopped, then the days of these creatures' existence are numbered, whether we ever prove that existence or not.

So therein lies the problem. How do you go about obtaining protection for a creature that has not even been recognized by science? The answer lies in a complex understanding of these creatures that has been gained by a small number of people located across North America known as habituators. Working with these creatures and each other in almost total secrecy, they have established safe havens across the North American continent in which these elusive creatures can find food, refuge and care. In these micro environments that lie just off the path to their deep woods retreats, these creatures have been able to establish a certain, although tenuous amount of trust with their human counterparts. Although they rarely let their human hosts actually see them, they let their presense be known by occasionally leaving small gifts in appreciation for the food and items left by their human hosts.

Science may or may not ever prove the existence of these creatures. But to these habituators, that is a rather mute point. That's because they are no longer mere believers-- they KNOW that these things exist because of the fact that they are actually caring for them on their property and at many remote locations in the wilderness. They do not need science to prove that to them. Consequently, they have already taken the next step that would spring from this acknowledgement of existence; they are quietly going about the serious business of protecting these beings.

I know that there are some researchers that would say that the Sasquatch doesn't need any protection because he has been doing an outstanding job of protecting himself on this continent for thousands of years. But that was before the arrival of a group of humans who have never learned to live with their environment -- Homo sapiens europeanensis, if I may coin a humorous scientific name for them. The members of this specie have never learned to live with their environment because they have been too busy conquering it -- in the same way that they conquered it for the Native Americans, the Ivory-billed Woodpecker and the Passenger Pigeon. Regardless of how elusive the Sasquatch is, he will never be able to survive the destruction of his habitat. The history of man's inneraction with his envoronment on this continent has proven this to be a fact.

The only way that we are ever going to be able to protect the vast acreages of Sasquatch habitat on this continent is through the private acquisition of it by concerned groups. And the aforementioned habituators have already begun that process -- one habitat at a time.

They could sure use some more folks to get on the bandwagon with them.

Sasquatch Rising 2013:
Dead Giants Tell No Tales: How DNA Breakthroughs and
Backyard Visits Reveal the Greatest Story of Our Time

By Christopher Noel

Dr. Melba Ketchum’s DNA study has revealed that Sasquatch arose some 15,000 years ago through crossbreeding between female Homo sapiens and males of another primate species. The latter remains unclassified, except for one fact: It was a fellow member of the Homo family tree. This quality of uncanny humanness has never been doubted, though, at Sasquatch “habituation sites,” places with which the hairy folk have become familiar. Throughout North America, certain people have experienced repeat visits to their homes and properties, often for years. Some have sought, in the peaceful spirit of Jane Goodall, to befriend these curious and tricky neighbors, and to foster (so to speak) an ongoing family reunion. Most of Ketchum’s 109 hair, blood and tissue samples were obtained at such locations, as was the video footage showcased in the soon-to-be- released Erickson Project documentary. The recent Texas homicide exploited yet another habituation site. Now an open season on Sasquatch may be at hand, unless halted by insight. We must welcome an immediate flowering of vivid backyard accounts, leading to familiarity, recognition, and protected legal status. Meanwhile, let us fully appreciate this historical turning point—like the moon landing only better, because instead of finding a barren new world, we’re discovering our own planet all over again. SASQUATCH RISING 2013 is the only available source to not only delve into the scientific revolution unfolding before us today but also to fill in the rest of the story, conducting readers behind the scenes at multiple habituation sites—in Iowa, New York State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Vermont. These first-person testimonials and the author’s own field notes show the subtle, surprising ways of our ancient living kin.

Three experts disagree on bonding with a Sasquatch

Sasquatch Genesis - the Origin of Bigfoot

By David Claerr, Yahoo! Contributor Network

As you travel back through time to the distant past, 15,000 years ago, the European subcontinent is a very different place. It is wild and savage, covered with a mantle of ice and snow lasting almost half the year. You look down from the entrance of a cave to the windswept, rocky plateau below and see the surging herds of the great beasts: mammoth, wooly rhinoceros and bison as they press ever more southward, fleeing from the biting north wind. The snow lions, dire wolves and cave hyena stalk the herds, preying on the stragglers. Year by year, this part of the world has grown colder and more inhospitable. An ice age has descended, the glaciers sweeping south, down beyond what is now Poland, Germany and deep into France.

The Origins of Saquatch or Bigfoot as Evidenced in the Fossil Record

By David Claerr, Yahoo! Contributor Network

In this essay, I will present an hypothesis on the origins and nature of the wilderness hominins variously known as Sasquatch, Bigfoot, and Skunk Ape in the Americas, and as the possibly related Almasty or relict humans in the Euarasian continent.

Bigfoot Handprint Discovered In Texas

By David Claerr, Yahoo! Contributor Network

In the dense woodlands of northeast Texas, near the town of Paris, there have been many recent reports of sightings of large, hairy, creatures that match descriptions of Bigfoot or the Sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest. Evidence of the creature's presence has been accumulating, including a few excellent plaster casts of its footprints. However, distinct hand-prints from any region are relatively rare, and the subject of this article is one of the best cast hand-prints on record to date.

Bigfoot Bones: Sasquatch Skeleton Analyzed and Compared to Human

By David Claerr, Yahoo! Contributor Network

As this article is being written, there are some significant scientific efforts that are expected to be published in the near future, particularly in the field of DNA sequencing, that will provide exceptional evidence to help verify the existence of Sasquatch, or Bigfoot as a living species of hominid. Preliminary reports suggest that they may be more closely related to humans than any of the other "great apes" or higher primates, such as chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas or orangutans, perhaps even related to or within the direct lineage that resulted in modern humans.

The Zana Affair

By Ray Crowe

This is the incredible story of Zana or Zanya, a hairy Wild Woman, known locally as an Abnauayu, or a real Abominable Snowman; Snow Woman in this case, or to some, called an Alma (female is Almasty) or Kaptar (from Khazakhstan), depending on the location. She is a feral relict hominoid from Stone Age prehistory distantly related to human beings, possibly Neanderthal some think.

Sasquatch from the Bottom Up Part 5: Bear Arms?

Like all Bigfoot researchers, I habitually go back to the PGfilm for photographic evidence. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve viewed this film, especially famous frame 352. Each time I watch it I have a different opinion. One of the things I’m set on though is the upper appendages (arms)shown in that footage.

The Kentucky bigfoot habituation

This is a revised version of a report I wrote several years ago. This is a polished field report of an investigation in which I was involved -- I wrote it thinking maybe I’d write a book. But I’ve always been stopped by a nagging doubt. Something was going on there, as some of the facts I will detail will show, but along with whatever really was going on, there was a lot to make one suspicious about the activities there too. But among the things that were troublesome, probably the most troublesome among the researchers was the claim that the family of the witnesses had been feeding the creatures for years. This is called habituation, and it is very controversial. Was there a habituation in the Ohio River Valley case? Were there ever really any bigfoot at the location? I’m not sure I have firm answers for these questions, but judge for yourself.

Vanishing Bigfoot and Anecdotal Accounts

By Sharon (Eby) Cornet

There exists two severely important questions – which we hope to address in detail here – that continue to plague investigators, Cryptozoologists, and other researchers who are attempting to explain and find the final evidence that will prove, once and for all, the existence of Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Skunk Apes, Yeti, Yowies, Almas, Kaptars, Mapinguari, and their kind world over. For the Bigfoot researcher who goes into the field (specifically here in the U.S.), and has learned the habits and idiosyncrasies of Bigfoot, collected eye-witness testimonies, hair, feces, and other field samples, made numerous footprint casts, and even spotted Bigfoot themselves, there is little or no doubt left of their obvious existence; but to the skeptic who ridicules the “evidence” and does not do any serious field work or research which would support or falsify that work scientifically, the same two questions are thrown into the face of those who seriously want to expose an irrefutable answer concerning the elusive Bigfoot: Where are the bodies or bones? And… Why do they seem to vanish into thin air before they can be caught? It is my intent to not only discuss some of the reasons why, but also to propose a challenge, along with providing a test that researchers can do in the field when Bigfoot makes his “disappearance.”

Sasquatch from the Bottom Up part 3: A Sexy Beast

Posted by robin

Little is known of the how the bigfoot begets. Some witnesses claim they have firsthand knowledge of his technique, but nothing has come to light that is reliable evidence. What is indisputable, however, is that there can’t be just one.

Pitt Lake, BC sightings, June, 1965

This story was first reported to the British Columbia Museum after an appeal was made for information following the Blue Creek Mountain tracks and the Patterson movie. A creature, and more than one set of tracks were seen by two prospectors, and both a report of the sighting and a sketch of the creature and the tracks were entered in their field notes. The drawings are of particular value, since all of them, including that of the creature itself, were made while the object being sketched was in view and under study.

The Minnesota Ice Man

Over the course of reviewing historical records and incidents we gave the Minnesota Iceman a second look, and, we were quite astounded by what we found. Frank Hansen was a Minnesota resident and the individual that toured with a hairy body of a biped that had many features that appeared human. It wasn’t until NABS went deep into the story did we understand the possibility that this biped may have been a real Bigfoot.

Skunk Ape, Cousin of Bigfoot?

Where are the Bones?

By Cliff Barackman

When discussing the possibility of sasquatches being real animals with the general public, I often get the question, "If they're real, why don't we find their bones?" I usually answer this question with another: "If bears and mountain lions are real, why don't we find their bones?"

A Case for Infrasound: The Frequency of the Squatch

By Cliff Barackman

Most researchers of the sasquatch phenomenon soon recognize that many people have strange reactions to the presence of these animals. The feeling of being watched is by far one of the most frequently mentioned anomalies in reports, but there are many others. It is my opinion that infrasound can account for most, if not all, of the seemingly inexplicable reactions.

Bigfoot DNA

We asked many of the polite and approachable researchers why some other “BIG Name” researchers have completely ignored the statements of Native Americans regarding the human quality of hairy people? NABS received the same statement time after time, some researchers based their entire careers on bigfoot being an ape or gorilla, they wrote many books about this, appeared in documentaries and essentially leveraged everything they owned on the ape hypothesis, they had to ignore Native Americans and they had to discount DNA findings. Every famous researcher and almost every large and well-known bigfoot website continued to proclaim that bigfoot was an ape or gorilla.

The Myth of Bigfoot DNA

By Lisa A. Shiel

There’s been a lot of talk recently about Bigfoot and DNA. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read someone say or had someone tell me that DNA will prove the existence of Bigfoot as a real, biological animal. All we need is a really, really, really good sample and an open-minded scientist to perform the testing. DNA has become the holy grail of Bigfoot research, but it’s based on a fallacy. DNA by itself will never prove Bigfoot exists.

Sasquatch Stalkers

By Russell A. Graves

December 2011 issue of Texas Parks & Wildlife

Outside the Pacific Northwest, Texas is considered one of the hotbeds of Bigfoot activity with numerous reported sightings over the past six decades. Predictably, because of the forest density and the numerous waterways, the wedge of Texas between the Louisiana border and Interstate 45 from Houston to Dallas has the highest incidence of Bigfoot reports. Most sightings have been roadside encounters. Reports continue to filter in.

The complete mitochondrial DNA genome of an unknown hominin from southern Siberia

By Johannes Krause

ABSTRACT - With the exception of Neanderthals, from which DNA sequences of numerous individuals have now been determined1, the number and genetic relationships of other hominin lineages are largely unknown. Here we report a complete mitochondrial (mt) DNA sequence retrieved from a bone excavated in 2008 in Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains in southern Siberia. It represents a hitherto unknown type of hominin mtDNA that shares a common ancestor with anatomically modern human and Neanderthal mtDNAs about 1.0 million years ago. This indicates that it derives from a hominin migration out of Africa distinct from that of the ancestors of Neanderthals and of modern humans. The stratigraphy of the cave where the bone was found suggests that the Denisova hominin lived close in time and space with Neanderthals as well as with modern humans.

Skookum Hokum

By Daniel Perez

In the December 2000 edition of the Bigfoot Times, we covered the Skookum cast, "the apparent clear body imprint of a Bigfoot" discovered on September 22, 2000 in Washington State. Since that time, the Skookum cast has been the subject of many lively debates with the pro camp claiming it has to be Bigfoot and the skeptics quietly insisting -- all along -- it is the imprint of nothing more than an elk.

Upright Walking Did Not Evolve Gradually

By Tudor Vieru

Our earliest ancestors, the ancient hominids, are known for their affinity to trees. They spent much of their lives in the canopies of forests in the land that is now Tanzania, Africa, and only descended on the ground occasionally. However, when they did, they appeared to have extended their legs in very much the same way we do today. Their stride was very similar to our own, according to footprints dated to 3.6 million years ago, Wired reports.

Bigfoot In India?

By Scott McMan

Well, it would seem that Bigfoot type creatures are not limited to the select few countries we had previously thought. As shocking as it sounds we now have India chiming in on the legendary Man-Beast. The British-based Center for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are planning an expedition to the Garo Hills of Northern India in search of what is known in India as the Mande-burung (translated to mean Forest Man).

The Minnesota Iceman Mystery Solved

Sasquatch Phonetic Alphabet/Transcription Standard

Submitted by R. Scott Nelson

Since our ultimate goal is the recovery of Sasquatch Language, I have found it necessary to establish a phonetic alphabet and transcription standard (based on the transcription of the Berry/Morehead tapes), by which the contrast and comparison of all future suspected language can be facilitated.

To this end, as an invaluable tool in the future of Sasquatch Language research, I am requesting that the attached standard be published on research web-sites and that it be copied and distributed freely. With this, I am also requesting that local investigators begin using this alphabet as soon as possible to accurately document any perceived Sasquatch Language.

How do we know it's a saquatch and not a bear?

Historical Overview

By Bigfoot Hunter

It is generally thought that bigfoot is a recent addition to our mythology. Indeed the word ‘Bigfoot’ was first coined as late as 1958. However in actual fact the idea of hairy Hominoids goes back long before then. And the reports are not limited to North America.

The Lake Minnewanka Wildman

Lake Minnewanka is located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The information provided here was collected through a variety of sources, including: Archive Reports, Old Newspapers, & Local Legends. The lake is seen here in an old post card (a drawing), circa 1905. Up to about this time, it was known as "Devils Lake" (shown on the image), which may have been associated with the term "Indian Devils" - now known as sasquatch.

Truth often is stranger than fiction, but the strangeness comes from the clouds surrounding our minds, not from the mystery itself.

Theodore Roosevelt’s Bigfoot Story

Excerpt taken from the The Wilderness Hunter. Published in 1893

A far cry from his New York City upbringing, the Dakota Bad Lands became Theodore Roosevelt’s stomping grounds when moved to a ranch on the northern cattle plains. During this stage of his life he tracked giant grizzlies through the mountains and wrote his account of these magnificent animals in The Wilderness Hunter. Published in 1893, it is one of the most comprehensive stories of the grizzlies’ private life ever told. However, grizzlies are not the only animal Roosevelt talks about.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum: In Search of Bigfoot

Posted by Craig Woolheater

Dr. Jeffery Meldrum said he doesn’t take on faith that Sasquatch is real but based on the body of evidence he has examined, he does think the creature exists.

Meldrum is an Associate Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology in the biology department at Idaho State University.

Meldrum said he started researching Sasquatch 14 years ago when he found a fresh footprint in southeastern Washington. “That was what set the hook as far as embarking on a more systematic and focused consideration of the question from a research perspective.”

Why Isn't There More Footage Of Sasquatch?

Many critics of the sasquatch phenomenon point to the scarcity of photographic or video evidence as a reason to doubt the existence of the species. Although no one has ever debunked the best footage that is available, skeptics continue to question why sasquatch images are so rare. Quick logic suggests there should be miles of footage if the animals really do live in our forests, especially considering how much footage there is of other large North American mammals.

Footprints Show How Our Ancestors Walked
The ancestor who made the 3.7 million-year-old prints walked in a "less ape-ish way" than some humans do today.

It turns out from analyzing the reported sightings and folklore, that the hairy man may be a varied and widespread clan encompassing every continent of the world. There seems to be three distinct types: small, large, and extra-large, all or none of which may be related. They go by many different names: Alma, Shookpa, Yowie, Meti, Kang- mi, Kaptar, to mention a few, with Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti and Abominable Snowman the most commonly used by the western world. They all have one thing in common: an exceptionally big, human-like foot.

Ichnotaxonomy of Giant Hominoid Tracks in North America

Abstract—Large bipedal hominoid footprints, commonly attributed to Bigfoot or sasquatch, continue to be discovered and documented, occasionally in correlation with eyewitness sightings, and rarely in concert with photographic record of the trackmaker (gen. et sp. indet.). One of the best-documented instances occurred in 1967, when Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed an over two meter tall upright striding hominoid figure, at the site of Bluff Creek, in Del Norte County, California, and cast a right and left pair of exceptionally clear footprints in firm moist sand. Additional footprints were filmed, photographed, and cast by multiple witnesses. Molds and casts of a series of these are reposited at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, while ten original casts are among the Titmus Collection at the Willow Creek – China Flats Museum, Humboldt County, California.

Giants in the Americas

By Scott Corrales

Mackenzie and Simon Fraser, the first explorers to venture into the pathless northwestern areas of Canada, were cautioned by the native tribes he encountered that hideous, destructive creatures prowled the region: the tall peaks of British Columbia were home to eight-foot tall Sasquatches, the broad river to which Mackenzie would give his name was the lair of the "Brush Man of the Loucheaux", a yellow-eyed monster who, like Beowulf's Grendel, feasted on human flesh, showing preference for tender helpings of women and children.

The Silver Star Mountain Photos

BFRO report

Broken branches on trees are a sign Bigfoot researchers look for as a proof that Bigfoot could have been in an area, but perhaps Sasquatch isn’t the only explanation.

Encounter at the Caves

By Jeff Duewel
of the Daily Courier

Eight years ago this month Matthew Johnson’s life changed for good when, on a walk with his wife and children, he saw Bigfoot.

The 6-foot-9, 300-pound Johnson has no doubt it was Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, the at-least-8-foot-tall, primate-like, hairy creature legendary in the Pacific Northwest and considered a myth by most.

The Grants Pass psychologist told his tale on television and in the papers across the country, even internationally. He created the Southern Oregon Bigfoot Society so people could join together to chase the beast.

Johnson still gets emotional talking about his encounter.

Bigfoot DNA

North America Bigfoot Search

The search for bigfoot DNA is not a new endeavor. Before NABS came onto the bigfoot scene there have been many individuals and a few groups that have pursued answers to bigfoot’s genetic puzzle. NABS did not want to reinvent the wheel so we pursued a path of understanding what efforts and results had been made and what institutions had been involved. First, let’s understand the two types of DNA we will be utilizing when we go to testing.

DNA of North American Bigfoot

The following text on DNA of North American Bigfoot was compiled with help of mail letters and discussions with Bobbie Short, William Duncan, Chris Murphy, Dmitri Bayanov, and some other researchers, whose names are mentioned in this text.

The History Channel in the U.S made up the Monster Quest documentary serial including 13 episodes on various topics. The one concerned us was aired November 7, 2007. It showed how Bigfoot visited remote fishing camp in Canada and some tissue of it and other materials for DNA research were obtained.

A 1970's Sasquatch Story in Georgia

By Wayne Ford

Along the Flint River in the vicinity of the central Georgia city of Griffin is the location of one of Georgia's most publicized pieces of Sasquatch evidence — the cast of a track with dermal ridges that supposedly indicate the existence of an unknown primate.

That 17.5 inch print was cast in 1997 by a sheriff's deputy. But 20 years earlier and within a few miles of this place, a young teenager had a fleeting but frightening encounter with an animal that was out of the realm of anything he considered existed.

Altamaha River Area Seems to Be a Hotspot for Bigfoot Sightings

Evaluation of Alleged Sasquatch Footprints and Their Inferred Functional Morphology

By Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, Department of Biological Sciences, Idaho State University

Throughout the twentieth century, thousands of eyewitness reports of giant bipedal apes, commonly referred to as Bigfoot or Sasquatch, have emanated from the montane forests of the western United States and Canada. Hundreds of large humanoid footprints have been discovered and many have been photographed or preserved as plaster casts. As incredulous as these reports may seem, the simple fact of the matter remains -- the footprints exist and warrant evaluation. A sample of over 100 footprint casts and over 50 photographs of footprints and casts was assembled and examined, as well as several examples of fresh footprints.

The Trouble with Footprints

Written by Paul Pinkham, Illustrations by Pat Barker

One of the most important pieces of sasquatch evidence—if not the most important—is the evidence left behind in the form of tracks, or footprints. Footprints are physical evidence, unlike other forms of purported sasquatch evidence. You can photograph, measure, cast and thoroughly examine footprints. In many cases, reports have been made of a sasquatch being seen making these footprints.

Are You Crazy To Be Interested In Bigfoot?

Posted by Loren Coleman

Outside of the field of cryptozoology, hominology, and Bigfoot studies, most people don’t understand us. Ridicule and bad jokes abound among the media and general public when you bring up the subject of Sasquatch. We know of people who have lost jobs, income, and lovers/partners due to their interest in unknown animals. The topic of cryptozoology gets harshly lumped with subjects that are only related to cryptozoology because people marginalize them, not because there are any natural overlaps or logical to such linkages. Sometimes people say folks are “crazy” if they are intrigued by cryptids and looking for them.

But how often to we take time for a self-reflective look at this business? Through a tragic story and its associations, we can view what one blogger thinks about all of this.

Bigfoot: The Definitive Guide criticisms

By Jason Stroming

But I did come across this article in the L.A. It has been a privilege to work with this film. These kind of images do not need a lot of explaining. No complex, scientific formulas, no indecipherable jargon. It is a good photographic record of a living being, and it shows in the film so splendidly as in these images and many more.

Is Manimal More Man Than Animal? -Part 1

By Dmitri Bayanov

Today, Cryptomundo's publication begins – in four parts – of Dmitri Bayanov's lengthy commentary on the status of Sasquatch/Bigfoot, a bit on ksy-gyik, and specifically, in some depth, his notions on the Carter Farm Bigfoot, within the context of the human family. This Bayanov essay is entitled, "Is Manimal More Man Than Animal?"

Below and in the other parts you will find a free-ranging essay by the Russian hominologist sharing his thoughts on the Ostman and Carter stories, Bigfoot humanness, habituation, and the possible language of Sasquatch. As you can see from one sentence in his contribution, Dmitri and I may appear to be on two different sides of the fence regarding whether Sasquatch are '"apes," but as far as raising questions to intellectually challenge hominology and on the issue of not killing of the species, we are in firm agreement.

Is Manimal More Man Than Animal? - Part 2

By Dmitri Bayanov

But the hardest stumbling block, which I painfully stumble against even today, is the unbelievable linguistic prowess of the Carter Farm Bigfoot. The two Sasquatch words of unknown meaning, remembered and brought from the wilderness to civilization by Albert Ostman, could easily be ignored and forgotten by hominologists, but how can you ignore and forget the published vocabulary of 223 Bigfoot words and phrases presented by Janice Carter Coy, each word and phrase dutifully translated into English?

Is Manimal More Man Than Animal? - Part 3

By Dmitri Bayanov

In my book, In The Footsteps of the Russian Snowman, I told about a local teacher in Eastern Kazakhstan, named Mstislav Kushnikov, who "has heard stories about ksy-gyik (wild man) from the locals and personally saw huge footprints at the place of one sighting. He opened a regional museum and one of its paintings, done by a local artist, is an enlarged copy of a picture in a textbook of anthropology showing a Neanderthal in front of his cave. Once a young tractor-driver from a nearby village scrutinized that picture for a long time and said: "I've seen a type of this kind, only female. She had dangling breasts and her skin was not as naked as in this one in the picture… her body was covered with long, shaggy, dark-brown hair."(p.104)

Is Manimal More Man Than Animal? - Conclusion

By Dmitri Bayanov

It is said that the significance of a scientific theory can be measured by the time it impeded scientific progress. Let's hope the "ape model" theory won't go down in history as very significant in this respect. Still it plays a major part in causing the Bigfoot research community to turn the blind eye to the Carter Farm case and the book 50 Years with Bigfoot: Tennessee Chronicles of Co-Existence.

Bigfoot and Railroad Trackways

Posted by Loren Coleman

There is a rare story, unelaborated, the tidbit of which is currently being investigated by Strange Maine author Michelle Souliere, that tells of the finding of an "apeman" near the railroad tracks at Greenville, Maine, in 1856. It holds the promise of further intrigue. Can you help? Has any Cryptomundian ever heard of this 1856 case and knows more details?

This item has brought to mind the quite frequent place that railroads fit into such stories.

Have you ever noticed there seems to be something special going on with railroad tracks and Bigfoot?

Who is hoaxing who with the "Making of Bigfoot?"

By Bill Miller

Earlier this year I had heard about a new book coming out that was supposed to answer many of the questions concerning the authenticity of the Roger Patterson/Bob Gimlin film taken in Bluff Creek, California in October of 1967. Having followed the subject of the Sasquatch for many years and having seen much of the evidence that had already been presented about the creature that Bob and Roger had allegedly encountered, I was expecting to see some real definitive evidence to the contrary coming from a book that was to be claiming the Patterson/Gimlin film was a hoax. As a Bigfoot enthusiast in my own right, I decided to look at this book through the eyes of a fellow investigator and not so much as a Bigfoot researcher. I think that some of the things that I observed during the reading of "The Making of Bigfoot" are worth pointing out and certainly calls into question just how definitive this book really is and more important, it calls into question the veracity of some of the people who took part in it. Many of you in the Bigfoot community have already heard from some the critics of this new book, but what I want to do is draw attention to a couple of things that the past critics did not address.

Some Thoughts on the Patterson-Gimlin Film

By Brian Dunning

I see many cases on both sides of the Bigfoot debate where bad arguments, bad science, and just plain weirdness is being put forth, doing great disservice to their own side of the argument. There are intelligent and productive ways to explore a subject and present a case, but I don't see it being done very often on either side of the Bigfoot debate. I'm going to present what I consider the top three ways that each side of the Bigfoot claim is shooting themselves in the foot, beginning with the skeptics

Was the Patterson-Gimlin film ever proven to be a hoax?

There are, in fact, several different stories involving different people who claimed (or were suspected) to be the man in the costume ...

Logically, if the stories involve different culprits ... then most of those stories must be completely bogus ... because not everybody who made the claim of being the guy in the costume ... was the guy in the costume ...

At three-thirty p.m. on the twentieth of October last year, two young men, Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, were "packing" it on horseback into one of the last remaining great wilderness areas, northeast of Eureka, California. Their saddlebags contained, on one side, rifles and grub and, on the other, ready-loaded movie and still cameras and other equipment. They were following a creek which had been washed out two years ago in the terrible floods that devastated most of northern California. This was some twenty miles beyond the end of an access road for logging and about thirty-five miles in from the nearest and only blacktop road in this vast, as yet not fully mapped area of National Forest. I have been up this Bluff Creek and, as a botanist, I can tell you that it is rugged...

Learning from Folklore - Part 1

That devils and wood goblins could be the names of real beings I heard for the first time in 1964 from Professor Boris Porshnev. In the summer of that very year I joined an expedition to the Caucasus, and that was the time of legend come to life for me, a very memorable and amazing event indeed. One thing is to read it in a book, and quite another to hear the local people use matter-of- factly such names for the hairy bipeds they encounter.

Continuing on from last time we now come to the Patterson-Gimlin film of 1967. This page at the National Geographic website has information on the latest documentary dealing with the sasquatch (it airs again on Sunday, January 31st at 10 am Eastern Time). A documentary which deals with the Patterson-Gimlin film in some detail.

Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin went down to the Bluff Creek area of Northern California because that's where the first nationally reported sasquatch sightings were made, and where the most sasquatch sightings up to that time had been made. Both men were interested in seeing what was going on down there, and in getting any film they could in the hope it would lead to sponsorship for a possible sasquatch documentary. The National Geographic documentary deals with the film as part of its look at the evidence pointing to the existence of the species.

Continuing on... we come to a sticking point for a number of people, a certain inconsistency in Roger's story. Patterson's account of the encounter is noted as having certain discrepencies. For one thing, Roger tended to guess at greater weight estimates as time went by. According to Greg Long the purportedly extraordinary nature of Patterson's claim means we must be especially wary of errors in the account.

The matter of just how extraordinary the claims of a great ape native to North America are is a matter for a later post. Where Roger Patterson's and Bob Gimlin's stories are concerned we need to keep one thing in mind; memories are not perfect.

Believing in Bigfoot

By Richard Creecy

Sasquatch draws a metaphorical line in the sand and, like other "monster" sightings, beckons the masses to cross the line and assert their belief or stand in opposition to it. Upon reading the word "Bigfoot" most people automatically kick into one of two modes: rabid believer or dismissive.

And then Anonymous said...

This led to us contacting him to discuss Bigfoot a bit more in-depth. What follows was done by email, often with two threads going at one time, back and forth, so it is a bit freewheeling and a touch disjoint at times. Bear with us. We feel there are some interesting points made in there.

The ape-like beast known as Sasquatch is mere legend to skeptics, but to members of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, he is a legitimate scientific conundrum. Preliminary Report of the 1999 Six Rivers National Forest Expedition

By J. Richard Greenwell

First, for those who may not be aware of the philosophy and intent behind the Six Rivers National Forest Expeditions, let me preface this communication with an explanatory introduction. Our starting position is that, over time, interesting evidence has been produced that runs contrary to theory in anthropology and expectations in zoology -- that is, that a large bipedal primate occurs in North America. It would be easy to dismiss the occurrence of such a species as "impossible." In fact, this has been done -- in my presence. My position, instead, is that normal scientific procedure should be followed, and that involves testing the hypothesis that such a species exists. Read more...

Hikers take flight when what they thought was a bear resembles Bigfoot

By Pete Thomas

When the black bear you think you're looking at from a safe distance suddenly stands and begins to resemble bigfoot, and that creature stares directly at you, how do you react? The hikers who captured the accompanying footage recently in Utah's Provo Canyon seemed to act appropriately: They bolted through the woods, with the camera still running, to get as far away from the creature as possible. "We ran straight to the car after that, leaving our tent and everything behind. "It's probably all still up there," states Beard Card, the YouTube user who posted the video. This is one of the more realistic Bigfoot escapades in some time.

Sources say Dogman and Bigfoot are two separate entities

In Coast to Coast AM's “Knapp's News” for August 26, 2012, George links out to an article that claims Dr. Melba Ketchum has determined that Dogman and Bigfoot are two separate entities. Interesting news when you consider that Ketchum has yet to release her paper on the results of her Bigfoot DNA research.

Ketchum Paper has Passed Peer Review

By Robert Lindsay

Ketchum paper may have passed peer review around July 10, or maybe sooner, but no sooner than early June. If it passed around July 10, and that date does look good to me, then there will be 6-8 weeks following acceptance until the paper is published in the journal. We know it will take 6-8 weeks because that is how long Ketchum said it would take this one particular journal.

Hence it follows that the article will publish around August 21-September 4, 2012. Announcement will probably be on a Thursday.

Big-footing it in the Parks: Sightings and Encounters

The B. S. of Bigfoot Encounters
Is BIGFOOT ENCOUNTERS a Reliable Source?

By Steven Streufert

The old Bigfoot-related web site, Bigfoot Encounters has been for years a very useful and rather extensive resource of historical materials on the Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon. It is run quite diligently by one whose initials are "B.S.", and purports to be some kind of ARCHIVE and annals of Bigfooting. It is indeed a rather vast collection of articles and information, much of it otherwise lost to time and age. Much of it, though, is copyrighted material, appropriated to the site and incorporated into pages bearing the BFE logo and style, which also will not allow copying and pasting for citation and quoting.

Could Bigfoot Be The Killer/Kidnapper on the "Highway of Tears" in British Columbia?

So many strange disappearances have occured on a stretch of highway that covers 837 miles in the province of British Columbia Canada, mostly involving women or children. Few roads on earth are more dramatically breathtaking than Canada’s Highway 16. The lonely highway stretches east-west through British Columbia, winding its way through snow peaks, bustling mill towns, and a remote and lonely wilderness that feels as if it has been lost in time. No one knows what or who exactly is to blame for the missing and dead. Canadian Mounty police in some cases believe it is the work of a serial killer, yet more than 3 decades have passed without any luck. Even a special task force has been formed and a Canadian government inquiry was opened regarding why so many women ranging in age from children to adults have either been killed or have never been found.

Writing on the wall: Pictographs, tribal tales add to lore of Sasquatch

By Scott Sandsberry
Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA, Wash. — Not far from the Tule River in Central California is a rock shelter used by tribal villagers long before the Sierra foothills began filling up with white settlers and gold miners.

The shelter is known as Painted Rock by tourists and archeologists for its colorful array of centuries-old pictographs depicting the animal spectrum... Almost all of the painted images are instantly recognizable as creatures that would have inhabited the Sierras 500 to 1,000 years ago... Three of the animals, though, can only be described in today’s lexicon as an adult male, adult female and child Sasquatch.

Top 7 Mysterious Moments in Evolution

Posted by Lisa A. Shiel
Lisa A. Shiel blogspot

Scientists like to say evolution is a fact. In my book The Evolution Conspiracy, I revealed the embarrassing truth behind this crafty use of the term fact. But what is evolution? In its most basic, and vaguest, definition evolution means inherited changes. Yet no one has ever demonstrated that genetic changes passed down to future generations can give birth to genuinely new life- forms. No one has witnessed an ape turning into a human, or a reptile turning into a bird. The changes required to go from the first living cell to everything alive today resist our understanding. What are the top 7 transformations that refuse to give up their secrets?

"Baby" Bigfoot Evidence- Cast Prints from a Sasquatch Toddler

By David Claerr

The vast ecosystem formed by the Red River watershed on the borders of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana affords a habitat comprised of many micro-climates with an incredible diversity and richness of plant and animal life. In many of the deep ravines where the creeks and waterways have cut through the the limestone cap rock, the vegetation has a nearly tropical aspect. Towering, ancient cypress trees form a canopy above the underbrush and thick hanging vines. These ravines are like a primordial oasis, seldom traversed by humans. Often in remote wildernesses, surrounded by thousands of acres of temperate woodlands and meadows. The ravines are a favored living quarters for the Sasquatch or "Bigfoot."

Two possible late-surviving Neanderthals from China and Mongolia

Posted by Dale Drinnon

Dr Jeffrey Meldrum recently published a paper advancing the idea that some of the presumed fossil types of humans other than modern man could have survived up until more modern times and could be connected to modern reports of Bigfoot and the like. His paper included two examples of what look to be Neanderthal types from Mongolia and China in the vicinity of 10000 to 20000 BC, at the end of the Ice Age and much later than the usually-accepted date for the last surviving Neanderthals (There are at least two such late-Neanderthal sites in Europe to my knowledge but Meldrum did not mention them) His description of the specimen illustrated below is as follows:

It Has Been Proven That We’re All Psychic, and This Can Be Applied to Bigfoot Research

Bigfoot Mind Probe Experience Redux

By Linda Jo Martin

This is an extension of an earlier Bigfoot mind probe posting originally published in 2007. My own Bigfoot mind probes since that time have changed my thinking on the topic. I am a believer in psychic phenomena as I’ve experienced this many times, however the Bigfoot mind probe as explained by the blogger at http://www.brokenpants.com seems unlikely. I’m still somewhat on the fence, however, because I don’t believe I’m the one to judge the mental experiences of others. Under certain circumstances what he wrote is possible. I’m just saying, to my perhaps limited way of thinking, it is unlikely. First you’d have to encounter a Bigfoot who had an interest in probing the mind of a human. Then you’d have to have a human walking the Akashic Records through a Bigfoot’s total-species memory banks. How likely is that? I’m not saying it couldn’t happen.

But as all the new details unfold, we’ll eventually have to ask ourselves, “How much?”

Bigfoot Bones: Sasquatch Skeleton Analyzed and Compared to Human

As this article is being written, there are some significant scientific efforts that are expected to be published in the near future, particularly in the field of DNA sequencing, that will provide exceptional evidence to help verify the existence of Sasquatch, or Bigfoot as a living species of hominid. Preliminary reports suggest that they may be more closely related to humans than any of the other "great apes" or higher primates, such as chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas or orangutans, perhaps even related to or within the direct lineage that resulted in modern humans.

So for many years I was impressed by Dahinden more than by John Green or by any of the other Sasquatch-hunters, and probably his opinion that some of the Sasquatch tracks were left by Neanderthals influenced my opinion that there actually was a second category of Bigfoots in North America, a sort of American Almas.

Breaking News: Memorial Day Bigfoot Filmmaker Killed

Posted by Loren Coleman

No other piece of Bigfoot film has become so tied to one specific holiday on the calendar as one taken in 1996. For those that say we only have the Patterson-Gimlin film to discuss, they often forget about the Memorial Day footage. Now tragic news has received me that Owen Pate, who was behind the camera when the footage was taken, has died. Owen Pate, who was the CEO of OLPATE (advertising and marketing) in Ravensdale, Washington State, died there, over the weekend, in an automobile crash. It was a one-car accident. He went off the road and was thrown from the car sometime Friday evening.

Closest Human Ancestor May Rewrite Steps in Our Evolution

Fossils of the extinct hominid known as Australopithecus sediba were accidentally discovered by the 9-year-old son of a scientist in the remains of a cave in South Africa in 2008, findings detailed by researchers last year. The fossils' mix of human and primitive traits found in the brains, hips, feet and hands make a strong case for it being the immediate ancestor to the human lineage, scientists report in the Sept. 9, 2011, issue of the journal Science.

I wrote a book on the subject. Now that I've watched four or five episodes of the show, I can honestly say I haven't looked forward to something so much and been so disappointed since Alabama had a preseason ranking of No. 3 back in 2000 and opened the season with a 35-24 loss on the road at UCLA.

True believer on trail of Sasquatch in Virginia claims 14 sightings

By Paul Schwartzman
Washington Post

June 4, 2010 -- THORNBURG, Virginia. Billy Willard says he's on the verge of a major discovery that could change the way humans think about the natural world, not to mention their need for a creature-proof home security system.

Here in Spotsylvania County, in the forests around Lake Anna, Willard contends there have been 14 sightings in the past decade of that most fabled of cryptozoic beasts: Bigfoot.

Or Sasquatch, as the elusive, apelike brute is referred to in other circles -- and on the side of Willard's blue pickup. The decal on the truck reads "Sasquatch Watch of Virginia," of which Willard is chief pooh-bah (when he's not earning a living installing and removing underground home oil tanks).

Sasquatch on the Home Front: Vermont Habituation Site 2007-2012

This half-hour documentary shows some of what occurs at a typical habituation site. Do not expect any great drama or direct evidence here, because the focus is on indirect evidence. Sasquatch use "object communication" or "remote social" interaction, as you will see. They play games such as moving rocks, trading gifts with human residents, fashioning tree and stick structures in the woods, etc. They will occasionally indulge in bold moves such as knocking on the side of the house in the middle of the night. Some viewers may wonder why I have not put up trail cameras. The answer is that this method is unlikely to find success (Sasquatch use their large brains to memorize their territory in fine detail, always vigilant for suspicious changes), and much more likely, instead, to ward off future visits. If you are interested in the phenomenon of Sasquatch visitations, or think you may have activity near your own home, you will learn about signs to look and listen for and pick up some tips on how to foster increased contact.

That's just the way it is and we certainly sympathize with the unbelievers. There are 2 types of people in this world: those that have seen it, and those that haven't. Admittedly, the Bigfoot phenomena is a mind bending enigma. They shouldn't exist, but they do. We should have found one, but we haven't. We can't explain it. We can only report on what we've found.

Sasquatch Language 1: Scott Nelson and Ron Morehead Interviewed August 15, 2011
This interview was conducted by Abe del Rio for MN. B.R.T. online radio. The entire show lasted 2.5 hours, of which I have excerpted just 14.5 minutes. The Morehead- Berry audio tapes (made in the High Sierras in 1972-1974: visit www.BigfootSounds.com) have recently been put through a comprehensive linguistic analysis by crypto-linguist Scott Nelson. Near the end of these excerpts, I call in to ask Mr. Nelson his thoughts on the forthcoming Melba Ketchum DNA Study, and ENOCH, the book by Autumn Williams.

Les Stroud's Bigfoot Encounter
Survivorman, Les Stroud was interviewed on KZOZ by Jeff and Jeremy. That's right, Les Stroud believes in Bigfoot!
